Auchterarder sits amidst stunning rural scenery in Strathearn, Perthshire. The town was known as The Town of 100 Drawbridges in the Middle Ages, on account of the small bridges that criss-crossed the gutters and offered access between the road and the houses. Auchterarder was made a Royal Burgh in 1200, and was subsequently destroyed by the Jacobites in 1715, and only the handloom industry allowed it to grow and thrive again.
