The unfortunate vehicle "Babs," whose driver was killed in one of numerous speed record attempts, was buried for years in the sands before being unearthed, refurbished, and put on display in the local museum. The legendary Amy Johnson used these same perfectly flat dunes for one of her many record-breaking takeoffs.
