  ! Gail and Philip were fantastic hosts from start to finish and the barn itself is stunning. Everything is very well appointed and beautifully finished.   The property can't be faulted: everything is quality, from the huge kitchen/dining room/lounge under massive Polish oak beams to the huge, comfy beds and power showers. The property is set well off the road and down a long driveway, so no car noise and hence a peaceful retreat. Owners are wonderful hosts - communicative, welcoming, friendly and always willing to help. 10/10

• "The most beautiful place we have ever stayed in."

  Such high quality layout, fixtures and fittings and contents. Such attention to detail and every little thing had been thought of. Lovely quiet location, plenty of parking, comfy beds, great showers and so much space even for 8 adults! Very dog friendly with a built in stair gate, enclosed grass area and even dog towels. As upside down living, was good to also have a toilet on the living area for those less mobile, something we haven’t had in similar layouts. We were so impressed with the barn, we booked within 48 hours of arriving for next Christmas! Lovely owners too, we had a nightmare journey and my daughter had arrived separately by train so they took her to the local supermarket for her to get some supplies, so kind. Would also recommend the Sportsman's Arms a few mins drive, great home cooked food - they do a fab roast everyday - and dog friendly. Worth booking though as gets busy. Dartmouth and Salcombe both close by and worth a visit. I doubt we will ever book anywhere else now when visiting this part of the U.K.

• "An exceptional property in a perfect location."

  Equipped with everything you could possibly think of, beautiful furnishings, amazing kitchen, gorgeous bedrooms with very comfortable beds and hot powerful showers. Immaculately clean throughout. The finishing touches of fresh flowers on the table and bedrooms, homemade cake and scones and the table set on arrival made it feel a real home from home. Dogs are also made very welcome with their own sofa and a basket of towels. Thank you Gail and Phil for making us feel so welcome. We had an amazing holiday and wish we could have stayed longer. We would love to come back another year.

• "One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in."

  Well equipped and very comfortable with loads of space for a large group. Impressed with how well it was stocked with the basics, like washing powder etc, as well. Before we arrived we were sent a great booklet that told you all about the property and the surrounding area so we hit the ground running. The host also kept in touch at every stage to ensure we had the best holiday experience. Will definitely go back when we next visit Devon.

• "We recently spent a fantastic week at Butterwell Barns in Dartmouth, and it was truly a luxurious escape."

  The barn itself was stunning—beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and equipped with every amenity we could possibly need. The attention to detail was remarkable, making our stay comfortable and stress-free. The outdoor area was a highlight, offering lovely views over the picturesque countryside. We made the most of the BBQ and fire pit, spending our evenings toasting marshmallows and soaking in the serene surroundings. Our dog was also in heaven, enjoying the fully enclosed outdoor space without a care in the world—this place is incredibly dog-friendly! The location was perfect, just a short distance from the Dartmouth ring and ride, making it easy to explore the area. On arrival, we were delighted to find a generous welcome package waiting for us, complete with fresh eggs, jam, homemade scones, and a delicious lemon drizzle cake that we couldn't get enough of. Throughout our stay, we felt wonderfully supported by the owner, Gail, who checked in to ensure everything was going smoothly. Her warmth and hospitality added a personal touch that made our experience even more special. In short, Butterwell Barns provided a perfect family getaway. Every member of our group, including our furry friend, had an unforgettable time. We can't wait to return!

• "Three generation holiday and a dog."

  Quiet and peaceful location. Exceptional accommodation, the best of the many barn conversions in which we have stayed. Barn is a quality build with fixtures, fittings and furnishings to match. Friendly and helpful owners. More detailed feedback apparently on TripAdvisor from my son-in-law! Highly recommended.

• "We are a family of 6 (including 3 children & grandparent) who travelled to Dartmouth for a week, with our dog, a rather big Hungarian Vizsla."

  The property was gorgeous, spacious and equipped with absolutely everything we would need for a week and more. It was a great base to explore the local areas (by car) and a wonderful place to relax after a day if activities/sight seeing. The owners were so welcoming and small touches like the chocolate cake, scones etc. on our arrival, were as delicious as they were thoughtful. I highly recommend this property. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves staying there.

• "We had a wonderful time with friends and their dog at Butterwell Barn for a week."

  The attention to detail is outstanding and the barn was perfect for us! We only used the two larger bedrooms but as these were identical there was no need to decide who would get the 'best one'. The barn was fantastic, just a ten minute drive from Dartmouth and with stunning views over the countryside. We got to see the resident hare(s) more than once. Having the EV charger onsite was a real bonus too, and so easy to use. Gail had really thought of everything, even baking a delicious lemon drizzle cake and scones to welcome our arrival.

  The house is spacious, beautifully equipped and spotlessly clean. The outside areas are peaceful and relaxing. The owners are very welcoming and very helpful. The homemade cake was divine. We would not hesitate to recommend this property in this lovely area.

  She showed us around the property explaining how everything worked & where to find every piece of equipment imaginable. The next day Gail texted to ask if we had any problems or needed more information about the property. We would highly recommend this property as it is very comfortable, well maintained & a very high standard of cleanliness. We all had a very enjoyable stay. Our French friends thought it was a beautiful exceptional property.

  Location fabulous with short drive to places like Dartmouth harbour and other local beautiful beaches and Coves pub near by about 2 mins in a car . • "Gail was friendly and welcoming upon arrival."

  She gladly showed us around the property and explained how everything worked and where everything was. The property was immaculate and spotlessly clean, and all the finishing touches were completed to a very high standard, including a specially prepared Easter hamper and home made lemon drizzle cake that all went down a treat. Nothing was too much trouble for Gail and Phil throughout our stay, and they were extremely attentive to our needs. Butterwell Barn was a perfect retreat for all 9 of us (including our Greyhound), and provided us with everything we needed for the duration of our stay. Dartmouth Town Centre is a short drive away, and The Sportsman's Arms and local garden centre is only 5 minutes away by car in the opposite direction, where you can enjoy wonderful home cooked food and a selection of ales in the pub, or a hearty breakfast or afternoon Devon Tea in the garden centre. The only blot on our stay was the malfunctioning outdoor lights that prevented us from enjoying the fire pit to its fullest during the evenings, and made it somewhat difficult navigating the steps and outdoor areas in the dark of night. The recent wet weather caused the consumer unit to repeatedly trip, so outside lights were not working throughout our time at Butterwell Barn. An additional consideration would be the lack of a garden area for relaxing in during the summer months, or for children to play in, as the land surrounding the barn is predominantly stone, and the surrounding fields are farmland. That said, the facilities inside the barn, and the first class renovation made for a wonderful holiday for all in our party. Thanks Gail.

• "We are eight friends, one of whom was celebrating a significant birthday, who have just spent a wonderful week in Butterwell Barn."

  It was our first visit and we knew, having read previous reviews, that it was a stylishly furnished, extremely comfortable, superbly equipped, and spotlessly clean holiday home, even so it exceeded our expectations. Gail, the owner, was very friendly and helpful and the Welcome box of scones, eggs, fruit juice and delicious lemon cake was much appreciated. It is a great place to stay whatever the season and/or weather and its location is ideal to explore the South Hams area of Devon. We highly recommend this holiday accommodation and we hope to return one day.

  Butterwell Barn is beautifully decorated, all furniture and fittings are of the highest standard, and it is also so well stocked I can honestly say there is not one thing you could possibly need that has not been thought of and provided. Comfy beds with quality linen, immaculate bathrooms, light and airy living area which transforms into a cosy haven at night.   The Barn is beautifully furnished and immaculately clean. Comfy bed, quality bed linen, powerful showers and the list goes on!! Gail the owner met us and showed us around. She made us extremely welcome and left us with a welcome hamper and homemade cake and scones. The barn is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. We had a couple of questions during our stay and Gail offered to pop around to help us. The property is extremely peaceful with country fields around you. A short drive and you are in Dartmouth. • "How to describe our stay in one word ?"

  FAB-U-LOUS? Butterwell Barn was simply amazing , from the very start receiving an extremely warm welcome from Gail ( and delicious baked goodies ) to a heartfelt goodbye from Gail, Phil and their little doggie. We took advantage of everything this luxury Barn had to offer, family meals made together in the most wonderful kitchen with every gadget and gizmo you would expect to find in a professional kitchen, BBQs on the terrace , late night sun downers around the outdoor table and fire pit , gin cocktails mixed with the amazing selection of herbs in the garden was a delight ! The bedrooms ( all en-suite) were spotless , the beds very comfortable and the linen and towels top notch hotel grade. We booked Butterwell to spend time with our busy family and the open plan living made this a dream , movie nights , quiz nights , etc , quality time was made easy . Gail has left no stone unturned at Butterwell , this place has it all . If you expect high standards then this is a must for you and the family. Well done Gail & Phil !

  Owner very helpful. Just a tip if you are visiting :- In hot weather the upper storey gets very warm including at night. Might be worth packing a fan or two - particularly if you are taking a dog.

  Decorated and furnished to a really high standard. Everything you could ever need in a very well equipped kitchen. Top quality homeware, bed linen and towels. Excellent outside seating areas. Even our family dog was well catered for! Our host, Gail, could not have made us more welcome. Extremely friendly. Easily contactable and close by if ever needed. Loved the homemade cake, scones and the welcome hamper. Beautiful fresh flowers too. Would we return to Butterwell Barn? It's a definite "yes" from the Dolman family.   It is equipped with everything anyone could possibly need and is spotlessly clean and well presented. Gail, our host, was charming and very accommodating to every request, even providing a brand new barbeque once she was aware that we had one planned. The barn is in a great area with plenty to explore whatever the weather; be sure to make use of the Dartmouth park and ride which is a very short drive away and makes visiting the town really easy and fun. Don't hesitate - just book - we are sure you won't regret it.

  We were a group of 8 adults and 2 dogs and we all had a great time staying in Butterwell Barn. Gail the host was great and let us arrive and depart at any time to suit us. The afternoon tea which was there to great us was lovely and went down a treat. The facilities are excellent and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The en-suite bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The barn is nestled in a dip which is surrounded by hills with sheep and lambs grazing which was a beautiful sight to enjoy in the morning whilst sitting outside with a cup of coffee. Definitely dog friendly with their own bed, towels and water bowl. Wound highly recommend and would love to return.

• "We’ve just had our third trip to Butterwell Barn and it was as comfortable and welcoming as ever."

  Gail and Phil have equipped Butterwell to such a high standard, from the furnishings, to the bed linen and towels, to the spec of the kitchen, that it’s become our first choice for our trips away. The Barn is always immaculate on arrival, and the cake and scones are always very much appreciated! It’s warm and cosy too. We loved watching hares in the field and the sheep with their lambs. It’s an easy trip into Dartmouth, and a taxi for six of us for an evening meal was a very reasonable cost. I’m sure we’ll be back again!

  The day of our arrival we were told that we could get there earlier as no one had been the night before which was generous. Talking of generous the welcome goodie box was simply incredible and delicious.   The Barn itself is astonishing, also amazingly well presented, and by far and away the best equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. There was even provision for our dog with her own sofa! Dartmouth (and all its facilities) are barely 10 minutes away, as are a whole range of places to go and see. It makes a perfect place to use as a base to ‘do tourist’, but equally if you just want to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. The owners were very kind and attentive, helpful with advice and suggestions, but did not intrude on our privacy. We would wholeheartedly recommend Butterwell Barn as a place to stay.

  The property is beautiful and so calm and quiet it is a delight to stay here. Great attention to detail of property presentation (fresh flowers and pretty prints and photos) and ‘finishing touches’ eg home made scones on arrival (with clotted cream and quality jam) Great recommendations for local food shopping and beaches: spacious rooms and a great choice of kitchen equipment so we could do a proper dinner. Everything comfortable indoors and out, and stair gates to keep the dog and the toddler safe and contained. This is a great rental for a lovely Devon holiday and Dartmouth is a nice place to potter about, shop and eat. This was our second visit and we are likely to return.

  We were a family group of 6 adults, 1 toddler and a dog. The Barn is beautifully furnished and all needs catered for, even the smallest details have been thought of. Kitchen extremely well equipped, bedrooms spacious and beds very comfortable, showers amazing. The setting is peaceful and tranquil Perfect sunny outside dining terrace areas and a small grassed off area for the dog. It is well situated to get to Dartmouth 10 mins drive, we used the Park and ride a couple of times which worked well. Would very much recommend this accommodation. Hosts Gail and Phil very helpful too.

• "Have just returned from a wonderful week with some of my family at Butterwell Barn."

  It’s difficult to believe that this was once a barn because the whole building has been rebuilt to grand designs. All the furnishings and fittings are of top quality. Hamper and fresh flowers on arrival was very welcomed. Gail and Phil have thought of everything to make your stay perfect and it’s no wonder that they have received top awards. Even during a busy lambing period we were invited to their farm to see the lambing which we all, especially my 2 granddaughters really enjoyed. Because of storm Eunice, Gail was very concerned about us leaving on the Friday so allowed us to stay an extra night which was very much appreciated. Thanks.

  The standard is very high throughout. It was lovely to meet Gail on arrival and the cream tea and welcome pack was delightful. The kitchen is fabulous, the quality of all utensils and equipment is excellent making meal preparation a joy. We were 6 adults plus a 2 year old and 5 month old baby, we all had a lovely relaxing stay in this peaceful location and look forward to a return visit.

  Butterwell Barn is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, of the highest standard and spotlessly clean with thoughtful touches of fresh flowers in each room and a lovely ‘afternoon tea’ welcome basket. We were met on arrival by our friendly host, Gail, who even helped to put our shopping away which was being delivered just as we got there. We will certainly book to go back.

• "Butterwell Barn provided everything we needed to ensure we experienced a lovely family holiday."

  It was surrounded by glorious countryside and located close to Darmouth with other nice places to visit fairly near by. The entrance to the property which is on a busy winding road needed to be more distinguishable as we passed it on several occasions when returning to it. On arrival, it was easier to spot the entrance as the owners kindly placed two red children's windmills locating the entrance and when they were removed, it was harder to judge ahead. This recommendation has been passed on to the owners. Must add, the actual property is set back down a lane so is very private and no concerns regarding any traffic. Due to not being able to get into the property until 5.00 p.m., we basically lost a good part of the day in the property, but appreciate COVID19 has an impact on cleaning the property. The owners did allow us to drop off our luggage which was greatly appreciated, but when you have perishable foods and travelling a good distance, it was a concern. I would therefore suggest a day 'down time' between bookings to enable families to arrive much earlier in the day to settle in and start their family holiday especially when you have very young children. We really appreciated the welcome basket which had fresh scones, eggs, jam, clotted cream and fruit juice and the owners were thoughtful enough to recognise a special birthday by leaving a card and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. This was a lovely thoughtful touch! We would definitely recommend visiting this property as overall, it ticked all our boxes. When the weather is sunny and warm, it is even nicer! Thank you!

The little extra’s such as flowers in every bedroom, also a beautiful bouquet in the main living area, to the ready supply of towels for the dog, all go to show what good hosts they are. • "Wow! We are a group of four couples who frequently book a holiday home together and Butterwell Barn is by far the best we have ever stayed in."

  The accommodation is spacious, very comfortable and the attention to detail shows how much the owners care. We like to cook and Gail and Phil provide everything you are likely to need in the kitchen, more than enough crockery, cutlery and glasses and plenty of space in which to work. The others could comfortably relax at the other end of the barn, chatting or watching TV. The bedrooms downstairs were very comfortable and with ample storage. The outside space looked great and in the warmer weather would be a big plus. Gail and Phil were great hosts and provided a welcome hamper which included a delicious homemade cake. They were extremely helpful and got the balance between leaving us to enjoy ourselves and being available just right. We thoroughly recommend booking Butterwell Barn and thank Gail and Phil for a brilliant holiday.

• "This property was outstanding, it was exceptionally clean and so fantastically maintained, we felt we were the first to stay here."

  There were so many little extras which made us feel welcome , for example the dog towels provided the shoe holders to dry out wet shoes, heated towel rails that worked and so many more. Gail gave us a splendid tour of the property showing us all the useful tips to make our stay more relaxing. The Dogs loved the big dog sofa and relaxing in front of the fire was amazing after a wet walk. Not to mention the complementary homemade cake and scones,jam and cream being a very welcome treat and a change from Turkey leftovers. Having a visit from the owners to check we were ok and offers of extra plates or cooking pans etc for the Christmas meal was a lovely idea, although we wanted for nothing the kitchen was very well equipped and the addition of the warming ovens was a god send. We had a fantastic time at this property and would go as far to say that it is the best out of the 6 we have stayed in over the last 6 Christmas breaks away as a larger group. Very impressed with the recycling system and very eco friendly.

  The owners seem to have thought of everything and even left fresh scones, jam, cream and cake for us. We had a keen cook in our party of friends who absolutely loved the kitchen! The bedrooms and en suites are beautifully kitted out and extremely comfortable. We just couldn’t find fault with anything. Our only gripe was that we tried to book a return visit before we left and it’s already very booked up for next year!

  Gail is the perfect hostess ensuring our Sainsburys delivery is put away before our arrival as well as leaving a lovely welcome hamper full of delicious Devon produce. There has been no expense spared with regards to the fixtures & fittings of the barn. The location is perfect for getting quickly to the beaches, Dartmouth & other nearby villages. We have chosen to book Butterwell Barn again next year with our family & friends as having holidayed in numerous other high end rentals within the Dartmouth area and the barn remains our firm favourite. We feel very lucky to have found such a fabulous place to stay.

  Everything is thought of and the quality of everything is so high. I would say it’s the perfect place to chill, all of our group said how relaxed they felt at Butterwell Barn. Such a warm welcome from the owners and the cream tea was enjoyed by all. . It’s a handy place for places like Salcombe and the Dartmouth park and ride is a short drive down the road which is handy. There are a couple of supermarkets nearby. . I would definitely recommend Butterwell Barn and we hope to visit again.

  From furniture to china to bath towels, it was all top quality. There was everything you would ever need in the kitchen, plus extras such as eco friendly laundry liquid, dishwasher tablets, coffee, tea bags, milk, oil and if that wasn’t enough, fresh flowers, scones jam and cream and cake! Great outside space and garden area. All fully enclosed and secure for dogs/children. Gail and Phil Bond the owners, were around, very friendly and helpful. Sainsbury’s deliver there too which is convenient. All round excellent accommodation, just wish I could pick up the barn and bring it home as I could easily live there! Many thanks
