  The attention to detail throughout the cottage was second to none. It was extremely welcoming and was perfectly situated in Norham. We would definitely recommend this as a holiday destination and look forward to rebooking again soon.

• "We had a very pleasant holiday in the cottage."

  It s in an excellent location to make use of the various sights of the area. Highly recommend the local butcher and baker. Norham is a lovely village and we enjoyed the castle, church, walks along the river Tweed and the two pubs. Would like to return to Norham in the future.

• "Cygnet cottage was lovely, everything that you needed was catered for, great showers."

  The location was excellent as a base to tour the local area. Great WiFi in the cottage also was a great benefit as the 4g coverage in the area was not the best. Only gripe was the garden furniture, not the comfiest to sit out in the sun though. We will return definitely.

• "We stayed here as a couple with a dog and found it very nice."

  The pub across the road was friendly, Spittal beach is lovely and clean and dog friendly. The castle is great and you can still access the large grassed area safely though a wide gap in the walls. There are a lot of places to visit within 30 minutes drive. On a sunny day in July we found the queue to cross Lindisfarne causeway and the massive car park on holy island more akin to Alton towers, as it was absolutely heaving and the car park fee was £6.50 min for 3 hours. We turned round and had a lovely meal at the Barn at Beal instead. The house layout was well thought out, everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. The only issues were around the cooking/serving items. It would have been really helpful to have had at least one decent sized serving spoon and also a large serving dish for hot food (not a plastic bowl). We noted that there were only 2 large glasses which we thought odd as it was a house for 4. There were a lot of helpful leaflets in the house and some concise instructions/information on the kitchen clipboard. It would have been nice to have the bin days written down so we weren't checking the street every night; the general waste bin was over full so I guess the previous guests had missed the bin day. It would also be nice to have a mirror near the plughole in bedroom without a step (for hair drying) but as it was just the 2 of us I used the one in the other bedroom. It would also have been nice to have had a mop to clean/dry up the accessible shower. These last are suggestions not complaints as we had a lovely stay.

• "Lovey little cottage in a beautiful village."

  Well equipped, fantastic enclosed garden which our dog just loved! Pub across the road, good food and dog friendly, staff were amazing. Lots of good walks around, River Tweed 300 yards from cottage, stunning views. Small issue with cleanliness…found a frog in the smaller bedroom!! Some nooks and crannies could have been cleaned better ( cobwebs in walk in shower, kitchen corners) but wouldn’t put us off visiting this cottage again. Overall, one of the best staycations we’ve had and would definitely recommend.

• "Beautiful well situated cottage."

  Fully equipped kitchen , lovely bedrooms each with their own bathroom. The village of Norham is lovely, with a well stocked shop, butcher and baker. Both pubs in the village are very friendly and both serve good food. My only suggestion would be to provide better garden furniture in order to enjoy the lovely cottage garden .

• "Hi Nancy wow, I don’t know where to start I think your little cottage is beautiful we found it nice clean and tidy and tastefully decorated I love the touch with the biscuits and flowers on the table."

  The cottage was ideal size wise there was myself partner and my elderly mum the bedrooms were well sized and plenty of storage space and the beds were nice and comfy it had everything you needed and more. The garden is really nice with a secluded area near the back door or an area in the garden up some steps where you can sit. Everyone in the village is so friendly and helpful Ps I kept the birds fed through the week and put more back in the tubs. We are so pleased we have booked next year

  Very friendly village with good amenities. I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing break away from the main throughfare. Lovely walks along the River Tweed and no shortage of places to visit in the surrounding area.

• "Great cottage in a lovely village close to some interesting sights."

  Local butcher was excellent and nice food in pub across the street from cottage. Drive to Holy Island (Lindisfarne) was great, magical place. Dog friendly all around the area. Bamburgh castle and beach are world class. Floors castle was also worth a visit, gardens are wonderful there.

• "We had another excellent holiday at Cygnet Cottage."

  Some small problems, which were dealt with promptly & efficiently, thank you. We are going back in September and hope to book for next year as well. Thank you very much for the welcome pack, much appreciated. Lovely walks along the Tweed, food at the Masons. Plenty of local walks, idyllic village and friendly people. Butchers, General Store, Gunmakers, Bakery & Mobile Fish & Chip Van on Thursday night recommended.

• "En-suite bedroom - not much space either side of bed."

  Very tight. Separate bathroom very cold during evening. Heater in sitting room not working efficiently. Owner of property unfriendly and refused to take calls after I’d reported this. Plumber came to look and informed us that bedroom heater in bedroom didn’t come on as heat set on thermostat. Sitting room was warm when he arrived as we had had just used the cooker for dinner, Received a text next day to phone Sykes if I’d any further queries!! She locked the thermostat at 23 degrees. Unpleasant person.

  I responded to all your calls and helped you with - subtitles on iplayer, advantages of wifi calling, what to recycle, where the glass bins are situated and how to open the garage doors. I sent an emergency plumber in response to your radiator query. I was advised by the plumber that the temperature in the living room was 24.5 degrees. After a conversation with Sykes I did lock the thermostat at a maximum of 23 degrees which we deemed to be reasonable. I was advised by Sykes to let them deal with any further queries. I'm sorry if this has spoilt your holiday but please be assured we do try our best. Nancy Property Owner

• "Excellent holiday again in Cygnet Cottage, we have stayed here quite a few times now."

  Everything is well looked after. Lovely garden. The Masons across the road is a very friendly pub and has good food. The Fish & Chip van on a Thursday from 6.30 pm is excellent. The village itself has a General Store, an excellent Butchers, Bakers and Gunmakers, also a Doctors Surgery. The people are very welcoming and friendly. We have already booked for 2024.

• "Had a fabulous week at Cygnet Cottage Norham."

  The village was lovely with walks along the river Tweed, village shop, bakers and butchers, all the conveniences you need. Two public houses serving food, fish and chip van on a Thursday and even a car boot sale. Back to the cottage could not fault this has everything you need and the place was immaculate we had no issues with parking outside. Our dog loved the garden including a friendly neighbour who was happy to point us in the right direction when needed. We will be back just to enjoy the peace and quiet. Lastly thank you to the friendly and helpful villagers who helped when my hubby fell they could not do enough for him. Please don’t change anything….

• "The property was welcoming and spotlessly clean."

  The flowers and cake when we arrived, was a nice touch. My wife is disabled and found the cottage very accessible, there are 3 steps up to the garden which would make things difficult for some people to get up, but they have provided a sturdy handrail which my wife used to help her up and down, there is also a large lower patio area to sit in before the steps for anyone unable to get up the steps. Located in a beautiful village in an ideal location to discover North Northumberland and with Scotland only 5 minutes away its also well worth a trip over the border

• "The description of parking is inaccurate, we couldn't park outside the property on day of arrival or several days during our stay."

  Other residents of street/village also use that parking as well as visitors to the pub opposite. The access to garden is unsuitable for older persons or those with any slight mobility concerns, very steep steps and no hand rail. The access around the beds is very tight; again unsuitable for older people, mobility concerns or those with a larger or more curvy figure. The washing machine was full of black mould and odorous. The shower drains in both rooms were full of months of collection of hair and detritus, also smelling awful - we had to clean these ourselves. We were supplied with one towel each for a 2 week stay, 1 tea towel in kitchen and no offer of a change of bedding mid stay even with temperatures in the mid/high 20's. What a joke to place a good house-keeping bond on this property when we had to clean it ourselves on arrival. We have stayed in many sykes cottages over the last 10yrs, this has been the worst for accuracy and cleanliness. On a brighter note - Norham is a lovely village and the surrounding area filled with great places to visit. We enjoyed the area and exploring various places both in Scotland and Northumberland.

The property has undergone a deep clean since your stay and all issues have been rectified. We leave toiletries, tea, coffee and milk at the property for our customers. • "Norham is a lovely village pleasant walk by river and beautiful picnic area."

  Good butcher and baker and good food at the pub. The cottage was a bit tight I think for 4,the space in the main bedroom was extremely tight down one side of the bed and I had to go in sideways and kept bumping myself on the bed end. The shower basin in the ensuite was slippy, no safety mat or grab rail. The garden was beautiful but the steps up were too deep with no handrail. There was no mention of the raised garden in the information on the website. This was a real problem for a couple in their 80s and I have arthritis. I realise it may not be a problem for able bodied people but it should have been in the information.

• "Excellent cottage, very clean and comfortable with a lovely garden to sit in."

  We have stayed here quite a few times now and it is always a pleasure to return. In fact, we are returning in September. Excellent food at the Masons pub across the road from the cottage. A really lovely and friendly village, with many walks from the cottage. A lovely Butchers shop, general store & a bakery, along with the pub, what more could you want.

• "Recently returned from a lovely stay at Cygnet Cottage, an ideal base for exploring the local area and there are many places to visit within easy driving, and with Berwick only 15 minutes away you can easily get a train to Edinburgh for the day."

  The cottage was warm and cosy, very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The Masons Arms pub which is directly opposite the cottage is worth a visit, we had a delicious Sunday roast dinner there! Unfortunately we had to curtail our stay by a day due to snow but we will certainly return here in the future, a very much recommended place to stay.

• "Our first visit to Cygnet cottage, were very very impressed with it, a home from home feel about it and everything you might need is catered for."

  Lovely and clean, nicely decorated and the enclosed back garden was brilliant for us to sit out and great for our dog. Had a small problem with the Wi-Fi but spoke to Nancy the owner and she was so helpful and sorted it for us. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends. Lovely village, very friendly.

• "Extremely clean, comfortable and welcoming."

  The milk, flowers and cake were a nice touch as were the extras for the dog (just in case we'd forgotten anything). The well-equipped kitchen enabled us to cook evening meals and stay in with our dog who doesn't settle well in pubs, otherwise we would have been in the pub across the road. Set in a lovely historic village with its own castle beloved by Turner, with beautiful riverside walks, right on the border of Scotland, this cottage is a real gem and an excellent base from which to explore Northumberland. I would love to come back here again and can't recommend it enough.
