  • "Our third stay, we love the apartment for its location and amazing views over the beach."

Sitting reading and people watching in the bay window and walking along the beach to Saltburn both take some beating. This time we had a week of sun, blue skies and truly spectacular sunrises, a great holiday. However, since our first stay about 4 years ago, the interior has become a bit tired, with a couple of niggles, the taps in the bath and in front bedroom wash basin seem impossible to master, but the main gripe is the lounge furniture. Other reviews have mentioned it, the seats are ridiculously low and very uncomfortable. Despite this, I am sure we will return!

The property

A tastefully presented first floor apartment, situated on a beautiful quiet unspoiled sandy beach, in the heart of Marske-by-the-Sea.

With breath-taking views from the sitting room through floor to ceiling period windows, you can sit and watch the local fisherman launch their boats and return at the end of the day to watch the sun set.

Fully modernised, the rooms are themed in a very calm and tranquil beach hut style, with light and airy decor, a wonderful L shaped sofa, and a central effective fireplace.

The country cottage kitchen is surrounded by oak units, and even features a fold-out dining table, whilst the bathroom is uplifted by a mosaic backdrop, with a shower sitting above.

When the night draws in, two bedrooms will leave you spoilt for choice, continuing the ocean feel, with soft furnishings, and low lighting.

Just across the private driveway/road is a terraced area with patio furniture where you can sit and take in the stunning views, and enjoy an evening meal.

If you can steal yourself away from this idyllic scene, the pubs, tea rooms and shops in the village centre are just a few minutes stroll.

You can leave your door and minutes later be on the tranquil sandy beach and perhaps walk two miles to the bohemian and vibrant spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea with its historic pier and cliff railway.

It would be easy to think you are in a remote location, but it is a very convenient base to explore the true delights of the North York Moors villages and seaside resorts such as Whitby.

Something here for every age group whatever the season.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

MARSKE-BY-THE-SEA

Saltburn 3 miles; Redcar 3 miles; Whitby 20 miles.

Marske-by-the-Sea is a small, bustling coastal village with long, wide, sandy beaches. Originally an old fishing village, today it has a selection of local shops and pubs, which cater for all the family, plus the safe, sandy beaches, sand dunes and fishing boats are an enticing attraction. Places of interest nearby include Captain Cook's birthplace, the mining museum, and the Zetland Lifeboat Museum. Within easy reach of this quaint village is a horse riding centre, the stunning scenery of the North York Moors, through which runs a steam railway line, and the numerous pretty inland villages and fishing villages including Staithes and Runswick Bay. The old Victorian spa town of Saltburn is just 3 miles away and it's an easy drive to other seaside resorts such as Whitby. A great base from which to tour the area.
