  • "Back again (for at least the fifth time!"

) at this lovely apartment, set in beautiful surroundings and which has everything you might need. Owners are extremely welcoming and now treat us like old friends, which is lovely. The only down point is the outside spiral staircase, which is well advertised, and we always manage fine. Would book again for next year if it was possible.

The property

A lovely first floor apartment situated above the owner's home, in the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria, close to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

Accessed via an external, open tread, spiral staircase and located in a historic house with stunning views overlooking the Lune Valley, this apartment would make a great base for families or friends who wish to explore this glorious part of rural England.

There are two inviting bedrooms on offer, one double and one twin, as well as a delightful sitting room where lovely views can be enjoyed across the gardens to the river and fells beyond.

You will also find a well-equipped kitchen and a dining room, perfect for getting together and enjoying a group meal.

The apartment is complete with an excellent family bathroom.

Outside, there is a lovely shared lawned garden with superb views, almost as good as Ruskin's View.

Kirkby Lonsdale is sure to delight guests with its individual shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all just two minutes’ walk from the front door of your holiday apartment.

The impressive Norman church, St Mary’s, is well worth seeing, and beyond the churchyard is the famous setting for the John Turner’s painting, Ruskin’s View.

Lovers of the outdoors will be spoilt for choice, with a great park close by, sitting on the banks of the River Lune, whilst the beautiful Devil’s Bridge is an enjoyable walk away.

Further afield, why not take a day trip into the Yorkshire Dales and explore the White Scar Caves at Ingleton and then pop over to Hawes for afternoon tea?

The apartment also makes an excellent base for those wishing to explore the magnificent Lake District National Park, with the ever-popular towns of Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere, both situated on the shores of Lake Windermere, accessed within a 40 minute drive.

This delightful apartment is perfect for exploring some of the most breathtaking scenery England has to offer, at any time of year.

Where you’ll be staying

KIRKBY LONSDALE

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country’.
