  • "We had a super holiday, the views from the property are stunning and we enjoyed several walks from the door."

The apartment is beautifully fitted out, was spotlessly clean making it a home from home. Just a couple of minor maintenance niggles, the front door handle is about to fall off and the under cupboard lights in the kitchen aren't working. Would we go back?.... yes definitely. Barbara & Mervyn

Ideal for two couples, this spacious apartment provides all the home comforts you need for a relaxing self-catered stay, no matter the weather.

Reached by a long drive, Loughrigg Brow is a magnificent 19th century mansion, formerly the vicarage, set in ten acres of beautiful hillside grounds with security gates at the main entrance Arriving at the property, the hallway invites you to leave your coats and shoes before making your way into the spacious sitting room.

The sitting room boasts grand Victorian windows offering fantastic views of the surrounding forest and over to the mountain range, Fairfield.

Make your way to the kitchen/diner to cook up a storm for your family; the kitchen hosts an electric oven and hob, a handy washer/dryer and a dishwasher.

Dine as a group at the large dining table or the breakfast bar, there is also a reading chair to admire the views.

For an alternative dining arrangement, head outside to the private patio for your meals alfresco, or an evening glass of wine in the last of the summer sun.

Choose from two bedrooms, both fitted with king-size beds and storage for your belongings, One of which with an en-suite bathroom whilst the other has it's own shower room (shower and wash basin) plus access to the Jack-and-Jill cloakroom/toilet. Ambleside has many restaurants and pubs to choose from, such as Misto for contemporary Italian cuisine, the vegetarian Zeffirellis or the micro brewery Tap Yard or if you can't tear yourself away from your dwelling, pop out to The Crafty Giraffe Food Shack for a delicious takeaway to enjoy in your home-from-home.

For days out while at the apartment, be sure to visit Ambleside Stock Ghyll Force, which is a delightful walk away from the property.

Walks from the door keep everyone happy, you can stroll to the lake for cruises and boat hire, or ramble through the park to the centre of Ambleside for local shopping and eating out.

History buffs however can enjoy an afternoon at the Armitt Library & Museum Centre, learning all things Lake District, and the Ambleside Roman Fort, which dates back to the second century!

Also in the area is the National Trust's Wray Castle, where you can wander the grounds of this Neo-gothic 1800s castle, and the The World of Beatrix Potter known for being a favourite among Peter Rabbit fans and literature lovers.

Watersport enthusiasts can travel south the vast Windermere Lake for an abundance of opportunities including kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and you can even take a boat journey if you prefer.

Where you’ll be staying

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
