  We felt right at home as soon as we arrived. Clean and warm we wanted for nothing, and the welcome pack was terrific, including cake, biscuits and wine. Oh yes plus milk, butter and bread. (The important stuff according to my dearly beloved).Happy to give this a 5 star rating and our full recommendation.

• "We've stayed at St."

  Aethan's twice now, and after exploring a variety of places around Scotland—from the high end to the low—we finally found a spot where we truly feel comfortable. Our first experience didn't start out great due to some miscommunication, and the place wasn't set up for us when we arrived. However, this issue was quickly resolved. It was an eye-opener to see how some previous visitors had treated the property—it was left in a disgusting state with no cleaning done whatsoever. Despite that rocky start, our New Year's stay was still magical, which is why we decided to return. We’ll also be coming back for Christmas and New Year. The location is secluded and quiet, incredibly comfortable, and has everything you need for a long stay. The upgraded smart TV is a bonus, especially on rainy days. We look forward to many more stays here in the years to come. Thank you for the logs too

• "We tore a pair of trousers on a damaged chair in the dining room."

  We didn`t like the look of the expired chemicals in the airdryer; mosquito nets could have been more useful. The property was damp on our arrival. We felt disturbed by the lawn mowing as well as the window cleaning, which both took place in the morning, while we were in the house. Bedding, that was kindly exchanged after 9 days by the cleaner was left as a pile in corridor. The electricity in the master bedroom is still strange. There were only few teaspoons and bigger glasses -just one beer glass. The colander as well as the dish drainer were rusty. Investing in a bigger TV would well upgrade the property, the buttons on the remote control were worn and could be replaced. We were disappointed, that we couldn`t use the garden due to the clouds of midges that would fill the air.

  I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay at St Aethans. I am up here this week to check the property maintenance I was unaware that someone has chipped the wood on one of the dining room chairs I will rectify this. I will also replace the colander and dish drainer and add more teaspoons and beer glasses. I do have to have the garden maintained and the windows cleaned I am sure you appreciate this - the midges i cannot do anything about. I appreciate your feedback. I have also replaced the TV I was aware it was due an upgrade Property Owner

• "Can’t understand negative feedback about St Aethans."

  When we visited we could not fault the property. The welcome pack was second to none and property was spotless. Grass was cut when we were there but found this to be unobtrusive and much better than having a jungle to wade through. No evidence of broken furniture or dampness. Dunrobin Castle is a great day out for £12.50.

  Thank you this is just what I needed ! I was upset to receive the previous feedback I have upgraded the TV though it was overdue. Thank goodness Morag’s husband helped set it up ! • "We had a lovely time, the cottage was very comfortable and spacious and we hope to return again."

  The only gripe was the tv that had very limited chanels. An HDMI lead was provided so we were able to watch via our laptops. A smart tv would make for a perfect cottage. One other small issue, we could not find a first aid box.

• "Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at St Aethans."

  Great setting and only 5 minutes from Bonar Bridge and 10 from Lairg. Thoroughly recommend a trip to the Oldshoremore and Sandwood Bay beaches (80 mins via Lairg) and the scenery along the way is fantastic. Lovely to hear and see the woodland birds throughout the day (bring peanuts for the feeders) - squirrels also make an appearance. Comfy bed, good shower and bath, excellent appliances in kitchen, comfy sofas. TV is basic but I only watched dvds anyway (bring your own). Recommended.

  Because the weather was so wet there was a small pond around the front door which made it a bit difficult to negotiate... and the supply of firewood ran out - luckily I'd bought some extra with me... but we enjoyed our stay - thank-you very much!

• "Overall a cottage in a quiet location with nice Conservatory and good layout."

  It has radiators and an open fireplace, even the beds are heatable. We had no contact with the landlords but we found fresh milk, bread and butter in the fridge, as well as a bottle of Prosecco, which was very thoughtful, thank you for that! The smell, perhaps of the heater burner, which is unhappily located in the kitchen, was perceived as unpleasant. One of the WC lines leaked, but will certainly be repaired, we have in this regard a Message left. The cottage was from the cleanliness O.K., but had already better cleaned.

  The plumber has rectified the issue with the WC leak today Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The boiler has recently been serviced, apologies for the transient odour from time to time, it has been thoroughly checked over and there is no leak from the supply. Property Owner

• "We had a wonderful time at St."

  Aethans, the cottage wasn’t lacking in anything necessary for a relaxing holiday. Outstandingly clean and tidy with a lovely sunroom looking out on the gardens and woodland. The journey to the cottage with views over the Firth of Sutherland was outstanding, as were the views from our trip to Ullapool. We were blessed with good weather, with temperatures in the mid to high twenties. I can heartily recommend St. Aethans. A trip up the coast to John O’ Groats calling at Thurso is a must and calling in at the Trawlerman for fish and chips in Golspie is a bonus.

  Spotlessly clean and very comfortable accommodation with high quality furnishings and equipment. We arrived to find the kitchen was complete with a well thought-out essentials pack, everything one needs after a long journey, plus a few luxury treats - Prosecco, chocolate cake, etc. Really enjoyed our stay at St. Aethans - a week wasn't nearly enough, so hope to return.

• "This is a lovely property ideally placed for exploring the area."

  Everything was in the cottage that we needed and the welcome pack was a very nice touch. The beds were amazingly comfortable. Would have been nice to have the central heating in in the morning for an hour but it was off. Used the wood burning stove at night as it was chilly which was cosy. Highly recommended.

• "The cottage was lovely."

  Very clean and well equipped and the welcome pack was the best we’ve ever had anywhere. The beds were so comfortable and the furnishings were excellent. Red squirrels in the garden and lots of birds. The area was great lovely scenery but quiet roads so it was a pleasure to drive around and take everything in. The Achness Bridge Hotel at Rosehall was great for a meal and the staff were very welcoming. The food at the Pier at Lairg was very good but the welcome less so. Just ignored for quite a few minutes when we got there. Dornoch is a pretty town with lovely shops especially the Jail!! A small department store converted from the town jail. Lots of lovely walks in the area. We were very fortunate with the weather but the cottage was so comfortable it was a pleasure to sit in the conservatory and just relax. Thanks to Katie the owner and Morag the housekeeper for making our stay so enjoyable.

• "Thought the cottage was further away from the road, but wasn't an issue as road went quiet at night, I am a light sleeper."

  Couldn't find an ironing board but can't remember if one was listed, but there was an iron. The Cottage was a good base for exploring as was within 2-3 hours of everywhere we wanted to go. We really loved our stay there and would very happily book again. The welcome pack was indeed very welcome. We were very sad to leave.

  Depending on holiday requirements quite central for travelling around the NC500 routes. The welcome package is probably the best we've seen, and received, while doing this sort of holiday. Shops & garages within 10 minutes drive either to Lairg or Bonar Bridge that stock most of what you'd need. If you're a stargazer then you're in for a treat, this area is classed as Bortle 2 which is a truly dark sky site, if you get a clear night, prepare to be amazed.

• "Comfortable and well equipped cottage based in Invershin which gives access to many places in the Highlands."

  It is our second visit here, we travelled both to the east and west coasts, visited Dunrobin Castle, Lochinver, Clachtoll beach, Ullapool and Oldshoremore. The cottage was lovely to relax in after our exploring. Quality furniture and beds, great welcome pack. Made use of the sunroom and access to dining out was good, The Pier in Lairg was excellent for meals. Lots of photo opportunities in the surrounding area and abundance of wildlife. If you like the night skies you are in for a treat, the corn moon rose above the cottage on 3 nights, it was spectacular, after that we were treated to the stars...wow!! Lucky to have warm and sunny weather all week, highly reccomend

  This road provides easy access to the coast or into more mountainous countryside. Further afield a trip to John O'Groats is a good day out. The local hotel is within walking distance and forest walks are close by.

• "We were two over 70 brothers fishing the Lower Shin."

  No wives, cooking for ourselves, picnic lunches on the river. River is a mile away so it was a perfect place for two of us. We usually bring wives so with them we would have found the separate kitchen not very friendly. We like an open kitchen, dining, sitting area. Not much to look st, but fabulous view across the loch and excellent food served with well trained staff. Check opening times tho. I would stay here again.

• "This is an outstanding cottage and absolutely beautifully appointed."

  It is located for easy access to many tourist routes. The owner provided an excellent welcome pack which went on an on when we looked in the refrigerator! What a lovely start to our holiday. We had travelled from Skye and our lovely sat nav led us a merry dance cutting corners etc. Our sat nav took us past the cottage and we had to telephone the owner for direction so, if you are approaching from Bonar Bridge the cottage is located just past Invershin station on the left hand side of the road. Another note: The filling station at Ullapool takes cash only. We found that there were a few cafes that did not take cards so just have some cash with you! Dornoch is very close and has the most beautiful beach and headland walk. The town has lots of shops and eating places, plus a good Co-op. We took the single track road to Ullapool and, as we found on Sky,. other road users were very good re stopping at the passing places. It is a winding road but with lovely views etc. We decided to come back via the main road but wished we had not due to road works and traffic - and it was a long way around. The weather was good and we were able to get to John O'Groats in the sunshine stopping off at some of the various towns along the way. Invershin Falls is just left of the cottage and then right onto a single track road and worth a visit. We are sure you won't be disappointed with the cottage and the locality.

  Very thoughtful welcome pack. The beds were very comfortable, well equipped kitchen and cosy living room with wood burner. The sun room was great to relax and read in... nice comfy chairs. Peace and quiet. We were able to eat out in a local restaurant plus visit Dornoch for another evening meal. Invershin falls and cafe 10 mins drive, well worth a visit. WiFi was really good. Thank you, we had a super holiday.
