He was very welcoming, warm and friendly, as was Shirley when we met her. We enjoyed the Yorkshire Brack that Richard and Shirley left for us.
They were close by and happy to help in any way, but did not intrude on us at all.
We found the cottage very comfortable and well equipped.
We also really enjoyed the beautiful garden.
Sitting in the conservatory with a cuppa, watching the numerous little birds feeding, was so enjoyable.
We would strongly recommend this cottage to future visitors.

Very peaceful and great to watch the birds, squirrels and hedgehogs go about their daily routines.

"Great little holiday retreat."
Everything you need and lovely hosts. Richard and Shirley were great, there if you needed anything but left you alone to enjoy the solitude. The conservatory was a great place to sit, read and watch the birds on the plentiful feeders(range of Tits, Goldfinches even a couple of Woodpeckers.) We used it as a base to explore part our own county that we knew little of. All in all a lovely stay in a lovely property. We will be going back

"As soon as we arrived we knew this was a good choice to spend our week."
The delightful garden welcomed us, as did the cake. Inside the property was well organised and furnished for our needs. The main pleasure was sitting at the dinning table enjoying the view of the various birds. This was a great location for visiting York and many other lovely attractions. A great scenic drive to Whitby. If you are looking for peace, beautiful villages and great pubs, highly recommended.

Beautiful gardens and plenty of wildlife around, the bird tables provided excellent views of garden birds, lovely to watch while enjoying breakfast. The cats were very lively and full of life, as cat owners we had no issue with them being about.
Very quiet, peaceful area, would come back here, again.

Richard and Shirley were very friendly. The accommodation is excellent, we cannot fault it. The garden was amazing, Shirley gave me some purple poppy seeds which I’m hoping will grow next year as a reminder of our stay there. The wildlife was brilliant, we saw different birds including a woodpecker! We also saw a hedgehog

Shirley & Richard were very friendly hosts and their Sunbeck Gatehouse is a credit to them - an ideal base for couples seeking a quiet place to stay but within easy short drives to various walks / tourist attractions. Sunbeck is cosy but practical and had everything needed for a great stay (incl. a very comfy bed!)
We visited Yorkshire Heart Vineyard, Beacon Alpacas & various National Trust properties - all within 30 mins or so of Sunbeck. Pub dining wise, try The Greyhound (Bagby) and The Stapylton Arms (Wass). We'd give a thumbs up also to the Old Black Bull (Raskelf) & New Inn (Tholthorpe).
Richard & Sheila were very nice & helpful but not invasive. We loved to sit in the many places in their garden watching the wild life. It was a very relaxing break.
The cottage was perfect in lovely surroundings and would certainly think about going back.

"Beautiful, clean and comfortable cottage set in the most beautiful garden."
If you enjoy peace and beauty this is for you. Freedom to wander grounds with lots of places to sit and relax. Kind, welcoming owners onsite but no intrusion at all. Close to many pretty towns and villages in beautiful scenery. Local pubs serve good food. We will return to this one for sure.

Friendly and helpful owners on site. Lovely and peaceful garden. Comfortable accommodation and well equipped. Especially enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders from the patio/conservatory.
A good base for visiting places of interest : 30 mins drive to Fountains Abbey and Studley Water Gardens, 22 mins drive to Newby Abbey, 30 mins to outskirts of York.
Would like to visit here again and thoroughly recommend this property.

"My Husband and I have just returned home after spending a very enjoyable holiday at Sunbeck Gatehouse."
The owners were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We were able to enjoy their magnificent gardens, watch the birds darting here and there and seek shade in the various seating areas within the garden. About 2 miles away in the village of Raskelf is the Old Black Bull public house. The landlord was very welcoming and the Sunday lunch was exceptional (booking essential).
To avoid any crowded places we visited The Yorkshire Arboretum near Castle Howard and Duncome Park in Helmsley both places were well worth a visit. Easingwold is about 4mls away and Thirsk about 8mls away. All in all a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

"Truly wonderful cottage, set in owners gardens, which were a picture."
Lots of places to sit and relax. Bird feeders were always full of birds inc great spotted woodpecker, what a treat!
Both Shirley and Richard were very helpful, Shirley highly knowledgeable with plants etc. All major attractions were easily accessible. Local restaurants were very good, Chinese--New inn, Huby, Steaks etc The Oak Tree Inn, Helperby. and Italian--Valentinos Ripon. Wonderful rural location away from all noise. We had a marvelous relaxing, restful time. Would certainly book again

We had a fabulous break from a busy working life.Very relaxing and so peaceful in the fantastic garden ,full of beautiful flowers and wildlife galore.The cottage had everything you need ,nice comfy bed , good shower and comfy seating in the lounge.The conservatory was an added bonus allowing us to take advantage of all the wildlife to watch. Nice countryside walks on peaceful evenings .The Eden Camp is well worth a visit ,and the workhouse museum at Pateley Bridge was excellent .Many thanks to Shirley and Richard for letting us stay in their lovely cottage. Set over the ground floor, this warm and cosy Easingwold cottage is ideal for a couple to enjoy a country break in this beautiful and historical area and is perfect for exploring the stunning scenery of the Howardian Hills, the Vale of York and the eastern Dales before returning to a lovely haven of peace and tranquillity.

The small historic village of Raskelf with its beautiful old church, wooden steeple and quaint farm shop lies between the city of York and the Hambleton Hills, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Picturesque and peaceful, it is a perfect introduction to "Herriot Country", with the village itself boasting two traditional pubs and delightful Georgian architecture whilst being surrounded by rolling countryside on all sides. The lovely old market town of Easingwold is nearby, boasting a pretty market square and a good selection of shops, pubs and cafes, whilst York with its famous Minster, medieval walls, the Railway museum and the Yorvik centre, is just a short drive away. The Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors and Coast are also within easy touring distance and are rich in stately homes and National Trust attractions - Harewood House and Castle Howard being just two of several within an hour's drive.
