  • "We loved our stay in the Hayloft."

Alan (the proprietor) is a really friendly man and he made us feel very welcome. He showed us around the accomodation and how to work the heating and hot water system. There is a large area of off-street parking and an outside area for sitting out on a nice day/evening. The accomodation has a two-seater sofa and an armchair, a small but well stocked galley kitchen (which we made use of most evenings) and a dining area all in the main reception room. There is a TV with a wide array of channels including Netflix, Prime and Youtube, as well as wireless internet - which you would need as the village has no/very little mobile network coverage. Thre is also a wood-burner and a large stock of logs, for those chilly evenings (which we didn't use on this visit). The double bedroom is a good size and very comfortable, and the on-suite bathroom is a large size. If you want a getaway location where no-one can get in touch with you, this is the place. The stream that runs along side the property is probably the loudest sound in the village - unless you count the sheep which roam everywhere. If you go out in the evening to the pub in the village, you will need a torch as there are no streetlights and it gets very dark. We have already decided that we plan to stay in the Hayloft again, as there were quite a number of English Heritage sights in the area, that we didn't get a chance to visit this time

The property

A charming 18th century, stone-built detached barn conversion, originally a hayloft, situated in the pretty village of Lastingham.

Stone steps lead up to the entrance of the cottage, which is all on one level.

This lovingly restored hayloft is stylishly furnished and decorated with a contemporary open-plan living area, yet remains cosy and inviting.

The owners live in the adjoining property and personally welcome guests.

With excellent walking from the doorstep, numerous villages and market towns to explore within the beautiful North York Moors National Park, and easy access to the East Coast, this makes an ideal base for an enjoyable, relaxing holiday.

Where you’ll be staying

LASTINGHAM

Kirbymoorside 5.3 miles; Pickering 9.2 miles; York 31.3 miles.

The charming village of Lastingham engenders peace and relaxation and has much to offer today’s holidaymaker. It is a place of unique beauty and historic interest, nestling among the folds of hills at the southern edge of the North York Moors. This quiet haven, with less than 100 inhabitants, has a charming olde worlde pub, The Blacksmith’s Arms, but perhaps its most famous building is the splendid and historic Crypt Church of St Mary with its wonderful ancient crypt. The surrounding area has many and varied attractions - The North York Moors Steam Railway, Hutton-le-Hole Folk Museum, Eden Camp Modern History Museum and Flamingo Land Theme Park. There’s an abundance of castles, abbeys, churches and stately homes to visit, including the magnificent Castle Howard. Last, but not least, there’s the glorious countryside - woodland and heather moorland, hills, dales and coast.
