It was in Haworth that the famous Bronte sisters, who were inspired by the surrounding moorland, wrote their classic works of English literature. A well-preserved historic town, Haworth boasts an array of curiosity and antique shops, as well as alleyways and cobbled streets that create a charming period feel, all against the backdrop of the wild, rugged, and barren countryside immortalised in Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights as the setting for the town. One of the best ways to spend a day in the area is to take a ride on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, which was made famous in the film The Railway Children. The Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and York's National Railway Museum are just a few of the many popular tourist attractions in the area. It's only a short drive to Skipton, the market town known as the "Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales," as well as to the upscale Harrogate, energetic Leeds, and historic Manchester.
