Because of its safe shallow swimming and wide expanse of beach, Looe beach is a popular destination for families. A great rock pool area for children is also available at Hannafore. A new Heritage Centre has recently opened in the Old Sardine Factory with a climbing wall and cafe, there is also the Kilminorth Woods, a majestic oak woodland rich in plant, insect, and bird life, home to many way-marked walks. Aside from the beaches, the Tamar Valley and Bodmin Moor in this part of south-east Cornwall are home to numerous mining ruins, much of which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
