It is situated on the outskirts of the Royal Sandringham Estate with its impressive house, church and gardens which are open to the public, plus nearby are the plant farm, tea rooms and gift shop at Norfolk Lavender, England's premier lavender farm. Dersingham has many local amenities and is served by a Post Office, two supermarkets, a butcher’s shop, newsagents and takeaway outlets. The traditional Norfolk village of Snettisham is nearby characterized by the pretty golden brown houses known locally as "gingerbread houses" due to the colouring of the local iron-rich carr stone used in their construction.
