Llan Ffestiniog is a picturesque village in Gwynedd, just 3 miles south of Blaenau Ffestiniog, in North Wales. The village itself is made up of rows of dark stone and slate-roofed houses. There are a few shops and chapels, but it is the dramatic scenery that really stands out; to the east there are the rolling moor-lands of the Migneint, whilst to the south and west is the beautiful Vale of Ffestiniog, a valley of thick woodland that plays host to a number of bubbling rivers and green meadows. Attractions near the village include the Rhaesdr Cynfal waterfalls and the remains of the Tomen-y-Mûr Roman fort and amphitheatre. The Cynfal waterfalls are part of the Ceunant Cynfal Nature Reserve. There is a large pillar shaped rock above the falls, known as Huw Llwyd's pulpit, named after a 17th century wizard or preacher. The Nature Reserve is Site of Scientific Importance, housing many animals and plants that can only survive where there are old trees and a moist atmosphere.
