Both Bowness and Windermere, Lake District National Park's bustling twin towns, offer a wide selection of nearby attractions, utilities, shopping and dining options to suit all interests and budgets. Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness offers a choice of boat cruises and boat rentals to Brockhole, Ambleside, and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The Old Laundry Theatre and the World of Beatrix Potter attraction are both 1.5 miles away. At Orrest Head, the inspiration for Alfred Wainwright's best-known series of guidebooks, you can take a leisurely stroll and gaze out over the lake and neighbouring fells. The historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside, and Troutbeck are all within a short drive of Brockhole, which provides high-wire treetop activities. For those with greater energy, the lake's marine centres provide a range of watersports. There are many attractions nearby, such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top House at Far Sawrey and Coniston.
