A little more information on Ballina

The town of Ballina, County Mayo, is best known for its location, resting on the River Moy. The area is a haven for fishing enthusiasts, with the River Moy known as one of the best salmon fishing areas in Europe, while the nearby Lough Conn is also home to salmon and brown trout when in season. There is a variety of pubs, shops and restaurants available in the town and a number of historic attractions, including St Muredach's Cathedral which stands on the banks of the river, plus the Céide Fields, which is the most extensive stone age monument in the world is nearby. The town hosts a number of festivals through the year, culminating in a spectacular frenzy of activity during its July festival - a week long feast of free entertainment for the entire family including music, song, theatre, art, heritage, culture and novelty events.
