Two and a half miles inland from Perranporth, which is located in the heart of Poldark country and the location for Winston Graham's novels set there in the 1930s, is the small Cornish settlement of Goonhavern. The area was formerly renowned for producing the best tin, and it still has abandoned pump houses, mine shafts, and worker cottages as mementos of its illustrious past. Perranporth, a neighbouring town, has a stunning sandy beach that stretches for three miles at low tide and is surrounded by rugged rocks ideal for rock pooling.
