Being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, Llanberis is something of a "mecca" for walkers and climbers. You can take the Snowdonia Mountain Railway to the top, or you can hike up one of the many trails. Llanberis is home to a wide variety of high-quality dining and drinking establishments as well as numerous retail options. Caernarfon, with its magnificent castle and town walls dating back to the 13th century, is only four miles from Llanrug on the coast.
